February is Go Red Month For Women. “Go Red” is a national campaign to call the attention to the number one killer of women, heart disease. Heart disease can be caused by high cholesterol and high blood pressure. This is why it is important for all women to know these important numbers. Do you know yours?
Do you even know what your normal range is? This is something all women should know and understand.
First, a woman’s normal blood pressure is 120/80. This is the normal and ideal blood pressure. However, numbers that are 140/90 and higher are considered high blood pressure. High blood pressure can lead to many health problems and risk. The number one problem is heart disease. This can lead to heart attacks. Yet, one is also at risk of developing strokes.
One may be able to reduce their blood pressure, by lowering the amount of sodium in their diet. They may also be able to do this by lowering their stress levels. Exercise and yoga can also help lower one’s blood pressure, lower the amount of stress in their bodies and help energize them.
The other important number a woman needs to know is her cholesterol levels. High cholesterol can lead to plague build up in one’s arteries. This type of plague can lead to blood clots and over time, heart attacks.
A normal total cholesterol level is one that is around 200 mg. Borderline high cholesterol is 200 to 239 mg. High cholesterol is one that is at 240 mg and above.
High cholesterol can be related to one’s diet or heredity. Medication and changing one’s diet can help lower one’s cholesterol levels.
Knowing one’s numbers and keeping them at normal levels can help prevent heart disease. If you are a woman and you don’t know your numbers, make it a goal to learn them soon. Do it for your health. Do it for those who love you and do it so you can live longer.
